Cookie Policy

The short version

This website does not set cookies on visitors, and it does not track you.

There is no cookie banner on this site because there is nothing to consent to.

What a cookie is

A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store, so that it can recognise your browser on a later page or a later visit. Cookies are useful for things like keeping you logged in. They are also the main mechanism behind advertising and analytics tracking.

Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, a website must ask your permission before setting any cookie that is not strictly necessary for a service you have asked for. Analytics and advertising cookies always need permission. This is why most websites open with a banner.

What this website does

Nothing on this site requires your permission, because nothing on this site stores anything on your device.

Specifically, this website:

  • sets no cookies when you browse it
  • uses no analytics of any kind, so there is no record of which pages you visited or how long you stayed
  • carries no advertising, no advertising tags and no remarketing pixels
  • embeds no video players, maps, social media feeds or comment systems, all of which normally set third party cookies
  • loads its fonts, images, stylesheets and scripts from its own hosting rather than from another company’s network, so browsing a page does not disclose your visit to any third party

The contact form does not use a cookie. It uses an arithmetic question rather than a third party spam service, precisely so that it does not have to load anything from another company or store anything on your device.

The one exception

If you are a member of The Lawneds team and you log in to administer the website, WordPress sets cookies to keep you signed in and to remember your preferences in the administration screens. These are strictly necessary for a service the logged in person has explicitly asked for, and they are not set for ordinary visitors.

If this changes

If we ever add analytics, embedded content or anything else that sets a cookie, we will add a consent banner that asks first and works properly, meaning that refusing is as easy as accepting and that nothing is set before you choose. We will update this page at the same time.
